Wildcat bluff

On the way home, we decided to take a little side trip to the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center. This is a privately run nature center with a few hiking trails. It is not free, but it is not expensive.

It is located just off of West Loop 335 North, just outside of Amarillo, Texas. Use a GPS to locate it – it is not well marked.

The trails are set in over 600 acres of virgin prairie land, just as our forefathers found it as they moved into the panhandle country.

While we were hiking, a bird of prey – probabily an immature bald eagle – kept a wary eye upon us.

Memphis

We rolled on to Memphis, TN — Music City, USA. Our first stop was the Tennessee Welcome Center. In it, we found two statues of American music greats: B. B. King and Elvis Presley.

We did not find Memphis to be a very welcoming city. Parking, hotels and restaurants are aimed to gouge the tourist.

We wanted to visit Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. They do have a number of tours, but you have to reserve a place several days in advance. Again, not very welcoming.

We moved on quickly. It was a big disappointment.
